eBay's Terminally Snarky Folk - will they ever be cured?
Once in a great great while we get a message from someone who gripes about something in our ebay listings like the minimum bid, the Buy It Now price or the shipping cost. Those points are favorite gripes of the Snarky. We also get gripes over whether they are allowed to bid and buy or not as we have our settings set so that those who have violated some ebay rules or have been Snarky can't bid or buy.
There was a time when con artists in particular and others who didn't feel up to paying after clicking the Buy button were doing their best to make the lives of Sellers miserable. That was before ebay gave Sellers some limited power to block some from bidding.
There have always been those who get upset what they must pay for shipping, even when the cost is stated upfront in the listing description and when the Seller charges only the actual cost of shipping. The aggravation of listening to the complaints and getting into an argument with a customer is just not worth the trouble of doing business with some people. So for some time now Sellers have been able to institute blocks based on certain parameters or on specific ebay users. When some can't bid or buy, then they gripe about it.
Today we got a message calling us "old man". I guess someone thought that calling us "old man" was going to endear them to us? That person got put on our Blocked Buyer list so quickly that his head should be spinning! That is something that possibly a lot of Snarky Folk don't realize is that the snarkier they are, the less likely anyone to whom they were snarky is going to respond to them or do any business with them.
Why would we want to increase the presence of snarkiness in our lives by allowing snarky people in? There's enough negative stuff that goes on in the world without allowing more snarkiness through the door! I wonder how many times they have to be blocked by different Sellers before they realize that maybe they'd get more accomplished if they tried a different approach and lost the snarky attitude? Or are they terminally snarky and it is an incurable condition?
